Is your footwear waterproof/suitable for snow?Updated 2 years ago

The majority of our footwear is constructed using the Goodyear welting process, which consists of a long strip of leather or synthetic material (called a ‘welt’) which is sewn to the upper and insole of the shoe or boot using a chain stitch. It is this process of stitching the welt that perforates the 'upper' which means that the footwear will never be waterproof.

The outsole is then attached separately to the welt by either fusion in the case of Solovair or Gripfast products, or by lock-stitch with respect to NPS branded product.

However, many of the leathers we use in our footwear are water repellent for example the high-shine and greasy leathers, when exposed to light moisture levels over a limited period.

Nothing we wear sustains as much use as footwear, which is why it's advantageous to invest in well-constructed pairs of shoes or boots. Goodyear welted footwear serves to provide comfort, strength and insulation. As well as being easy and cost effective to repair.
